| (Q1) There are several different diameters amongst rotary encoders. How different those encoders each other? |
| As the most application for encoder is motor, the diameter of encoder is defined by diameter of motor. For example, encoder with diameter 18mm is for motor with diameter 20mm(20mm square). Encoder with diameter 38mm is for motor with diameter 40mm(40mm square). Of course, we will be able to customize the diameter of encoder, please ask us for special diameters. |
|
| (Q2) How long cable length can be extended? |
| Length of extension depends on types of output as follows.
Open Collector : Up to 50 meters
Complementary : Up to 100 meters
Line Driver : Up to 200 meters
In the case with extension, more electro-magnetic noise will disturb outputs. Shielded and thickest cable as much as possible is recommended to use. Shielded cable shall be connected to the earth in order to fewer disturbance of electro-magnetic noise.

|
| (Q3) Is there Totem Pole output? |
| Complementary output is equivalent output to Totem Pole output which can be seen in our brochure with “T” mark. Depends on protection circuit, there is difference in output
voltage and frequency response. Please be consulted by us.

|
| (Q4) How to detect missing pulse of incremental encoders |
| It is possible to detect missing pulse to count how many pulses between two zero signals. If you know the revolution speed of the encoder, you can measure width of pulse to detect missing pulse. |
|
| (Q5) What are causes of missing pulse? |
| When there is wrong connection in between drive shaft and encoder shaft, it will happen. In this case, there are miscount with many missing pulses will be happen.
When there is much electro-magnetic noise, it will be happen. In this case, it will be happened occasionally, and will be few pulses missing.

|
| (Q6) Does encoder find zero point by itself? |
Incremental encoder with Z signal can find its zero point.
In order to match calculation point and origin point, please
use A, B & Z signal logic.

Absolute encoder can specify any address as an origin point.
|
|
| (Q7) What is the difference in between single turn & multi turn? |
| Single turn absolute encoder only detects absolute address of one revolution. It does not count now many revolutions have been done. Multi turn absolute encoder can detect both. Multi turn absolute encoder can memorize how many revolutions while its power is off |
|
| (Q8) In the case with binary output, what timing of reading of position shall be? |
| There are static reading and dynamic reading. In static reading, it is read when output signal level is changed. In dynamic reading, it is read in certain timing. Static reading is more accurate than dynamic reading. But dynamic reading can improve its accuracy to have faster sampling. |
|
| (Q9) Can multi turn absolute encoder memorize how many revolutions while power off? |
| As far as revolution speed within specification, it memorize how many revolutions. |
|
| (Q10) How to reset data of absolute encoders |
Single turn data can not be reset. Receiving circuit itself
can be reset.
Multi turn data can be reset to use reset signal. Communication
absolute encoders can preset those data either. |
|
| (Q11) What is the cause of misreading
of absolute encoders? |
| Miss-wiring is one possibility. In case of occasional misreading,
electro-magnetic noise is the possibility. In this case, multi
reading is recommended. |
